Former General Secretary of the Ghana Christian Council, Rev. Dr. Kwabena Opuni Frimpong, has said that if insults won elections, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) would not be in opposition. He made the statement while advising members of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) to tolerate criticism. According to him, he has observed that the NPP has become intolerable to criticism since assuming power. Rev. Dr. Kwabena Opuni Frimpong. said some NPP youth have taken it upon themselves to insult anyone who criticises the Nana Addo government. The former Christian Council scribe said such an attitude does not win elections, insisting the NDC would still be in power if insults were the answer. “If insults win elections, the NDC wouldn’t be in opposition so the NPP must take a cue from that,” he said. He said the NPP must be wary not to become power arrogant or could also face the fate of the NDC. According to him, the erstwhile NDC government was punished by Ghanaians for always hitting out at critics. Rev. Opuni Frimpong was reacting to the barrage of insults hurled at him for being critical of the Akufo-Addo led government.
He could not fathom why the NPP all of sudden is intolerant to criticisms when it prides itself of holding democracy in high esteem. Read more
