THE CHRISTIAN COUNCIL OF GHANA
CITATION
In appreciation of the exemplary service provided to the Christian Council of Ghana
By REV. DR. KWABENA OPUNI-FRIMPONG
As the 16th General Secretary of the Christian Council of Ghana, you started work on May 1, 2013 for a term of five years.
You settled in your new position quickly as the official spokesperson of the Council. Your ability to reason with politicians and media personnel on pressing national issues made you win the admiration of many Ghanaian citizens and foreign nationals. You became the face of Christianity in Ghana and was considered by many as the spokesperson for the Christian community in the nation.
We cannot overemphasize your tactfulness, wisdom, and neutrality in addressing sensitive political, ethnic and religious issues in the media. You championed national unity, national cohesion and interfaith harmony in the country.
You exhibited a strong passion to see a Visible and Relevant Church in Ghana, highly esteemed in the society. You encouraged Christians to bring their Christian values to bear on their public lives. You spoke vehemently against abusive practices in churches and encouraged pastors to journey with their members and help address their needs.
You worked hard to deepen the Council’s relationship with our major ecumenical partners in Ghana, i.e. Ghana Catholic Bishop’s Conference and the Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Council. It is worth noting that it was during your term of office that the CCG signed an official Memorandum of Understanding to have yearly meetings with the Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Council to deliberate on national issues and to share best practices.
You deepened the Council’s relationship with our international Ecumenical Partners, i.e. All African Conference of Churches and the World Council of Churches. Your active involvement in the International Ecumenical world helped raise the image of the CCG. It is not surprising that during your term of office, the Electoral Commissioner of the Democratic Republic of Congo and the Heads of Religious Bodies paid a one week visit to the Council to learn how the CCG has facilitated peaceful religious coexistence and political stability in the nation
You contributed immensely to the development and growth of CCG: You raised funds to contribute towards the building of a manse for the General Secretary of the CCG; You facilitated the development of a 10 year strategic plan and led in the review of Council’s Constitution; You successfully facilitated the mediation of the land impasse between the Tema Joint Church and Tema Local Council of Churches; You facilitated the establishment of some CCG Regional branches and a formidable CCG Women’s Ministry.
You have indeed served your generation as the General Secretary of the Christian Council of Ghana.
Therefore, Rev. Dr. Kwabena Opuni-Frimpong, “Be ye steadfast, unmovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as you know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord” (1Corinthians 15:58).
Thankyou for your devotion to service to the CCG and the nation at large.
And for all these we pray the Lord’s blessings upon you.
With deep appreciation
