The Chief Executive Officer of the Alliance for Christian Advocacy Africa (ACAA), Rev Dr Kwabena Opuni-Frimpong, has cautioned friends and families to desist from stigmatizing against people who have recovered from COVID-19.
According to the CEO, there have been reports of stigmatization against people who have recovered from the COVID-19 in the media. He stressed that, these people should rather be testimonies and success stories for the Church and the Nation. In fact, ‘their success stories can minimise the fear and anxiety in the country if we welcome them into our societies. We are all at risk and therefore we must avoid stigmatisation,’ he emphasised.
Rev Dr Kwabena Opuni-Frimpong has also noted that, if we keep stigmatising against people who have recovered from the disease, others who are with similar symptoms may refuse to report to health facilities for treatment and this will result in the spread of the disease.
The CEO has therefore called on the Church and the general public to refrain from stigmatising against people who have recovered from the disease. There is therefore an urgent call on Societies, Churches, Work Places, Families etc to welcome people who have recovered from the disease, listen to their stories and allow them to have impact on those who are going through similar challenges. ‘People who have gone through this pandemic are the people we need at the moment to inspire hope in others,’ he said.
