FORMAL OPENING OF 10TH BIENNIAL/48TH DELEGATE’S CONFERENCE OF THE METHODIST CHURCH GHANA 2018

The 10th Biennial/48th Delegate’s Conference of the Methodist Church Ghana, officially commenced on Thursday 23rd of August 2018 at the Wesley Methodist Cathedral, Sekondi. The service was preceded by a parade by the Sekondi Diocesan Brigade with the Connexional Brigade Executives in attendance. The parade was inspected by the Presiding Bishop, Lay President, Administrative Bishop, Past and Current Bishops and Lay Executives.

The Presiding Bishop’s address to Conference was themed “Occupy till I come”.  This was his last official address to the Methodist Church Ghana in his capacity as the Presiding Bishop so far as Conference was concerned. He has reached the mandatory retirement age of 70 years. The Presiding Bishop’s address focused on four thematic areas of the Methodist Church Ghana’s Strategic Plan namely; Ministry, Social Services, Financial Development and Youth Development. He summarized his message to reflect on the following:

·         Church’s responsibility to Society

·         Effective Ministry throughout the Connexion

·         Raising Men and Women of integrity to build a better Nation

·         Formation of evangelism teams across the Connexion

·         Building pavilions to support nursery and developing Societies

·         Sustainable budget to finance the Church activities

·         Intensive audits to monitor projects and transactions of the Church

·         Medical outreaches and quality health care delivery to compliment Government efforts

·         Embracing better educational system

He concluded with a call on all Methodists and Ghanaians to work very hard to serve humanity, raise and groom God fearing Christians for the Church and Nation.  As part of the formal opening proceeding, fraternal messages were received from the President of the Republic of Ghana, and this was delivered by the Western Regional Minister, Hon. Dr, Kweku Afriyie. The Christian Council of Ghana represented by the General Secretary, Foreign Missions in Canada, United Kingdom, Ireland, Germany, Italy and North America, Chiefs of Sekondi Traditional Area and other invited guests.

Individuals, groups and some firms made donations to support the Conference. These donations were received from Donewell Insurance, Methodist Book Depot, Methodist Investment Properties Limited, Paradise Pac Limited, and the Foreign Missions to support evangelism work in the Connexion.

An exhibition was mounted by the Heritage Directorate in honour of the Presiding Bishop. The exhibition has chronicled in pictures, videos and other form of documentaries to tell his story. It covered how the Presiding Bishop began his Ministry, his Travels, various Positions held in and out of the Church and other forms of initiatives he introduced in the Church.

The Conference was attended by 1240 people including Delegates and Observers. Over 963 others joined via Social Media on our official Facebook page “Thy Kingdom Come”. We wish to thank all delegates, observers, well-wishers, family and friends and the entire Methodist church Community. We also congratulate the Presiding Bishop for a successful tenure.
