The Christian Council of Ghana (CCG) and the Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Council (GPCC) made history on Thursday, June 9, 2016, when the two ecumenical bodies met for the first time and fellowshipped together.
The historic maiden Joint Meeting which took place at the Royal House Chapel International (Ahenfie) in Accra was chaired by the President of the GPCC, Apostle Dr. Opoku Onyinah.
The event which was attended by the leadership and member churches of the two ecumenical bodies was used to officially launch the collaboration between the two Councils and also to pray for the unity of the body of Christ and the nation.
The executives of the two Christian bodies earlier on Wednesday, June 8, had a business meeting at the Osu Ebenezer Presbyterian Church. They are expected to issue a joint statement on some pressing national issues, according to the General Secretary of the CCG, Reverend Dr. Kwabena Opuni Frimpong.
Rev. Dr. Opuni Frimpong, explaining the purpose of the meeting on Thursday, revealed that the occasion was the first time the Christian Council of Ghana which was established in 1929 was meeting with the GPCC.
Describing the event as historic, he stated that the two Councils will hold a second service later in the year to further push the agenda forward in their efforts to deepen the prophetic voice of the church in Ghana.
“It’s true that the church of Christ is growing in this country but the church does not grow only in numbers but in quality.
“If there is one area that over the years the church is not doing right is about the unity of the body of Christ; we are distancing ourselves. From this day forward, we will fellowship together and we will not allow anything to pull us apart.
“We are making history today. We are here today to tell this nation that we can come together despite our differences. The church is giving a signal to the nation that despite our differences we are one people with a common destiny,” he asserted.
